Older cars lack the safety features of newer cars

| Apr 13, 2021 | Motor Vehicle Accidents |

Texas drivers love their cars, and they want to make sure that their loved ones are protected when they’re driving their own cars. Studies have shown that very young drivers and older drivers tend to drive cars that have much fewer safety features than those of middle-aged people. This is because those two age groups tend to drive older cars. Young people often take over their parents’ older cars, and people in their late 60s and older tend to drive cars that are classics.

Why are newer cars generally safer than older cars?

The newest cars come with the best and most reliable safety features. Some of those features include center airbags, which are airbags that deploy between the heads of the driver and the front-seat passenger. This type of airbag cushions driver and passenger heads in case they get into side impact or rollover crashes.

Adaptive cruise control is another great safety feature that uses radar-based systems to either speed up or slow down the vehicle according to how much traffic there is and what the car in front of you is doing. Some of the newest cars even have safe-exit warning systems and safe-exit assist systems. These systems use sensors located next to the car’s tail lights to warn about approaching hazards when the car is driving below a certain speed level. If an oncoming car or cyclist draws near, the system will sound the alarm and lock the doors until the hazard has passed.

These newest safety features along with many of the other great safety features released in new cars over the past few years are simply not available in older cars. Young people and people in their late 60s and up tend to drive older cars that don’t come equipped with these features, making their driving experiences a lot riskier and more prone to motor vehicle accidents.
